Hair care routine for textured hair: getting started

Do you want to take care of your textured hair, but aren't always sure where to start?
Whether you are 3A, 4B, or 4C, a simple and consistent routine can transform the health and beauty of your hair.

Here are the essential steps to create your basic hair routine, adapted for textured hair.

🧴 1. Washing (shampooing)

Washing your scalp helps detoxify it from products, dust, and impurities.
📆 Once a week

Tip: Use a gentle shampoo without harsh sulfates.
At Ikala, our DIO shampoo with ravintsara and ylang-ylang (coming soon) is designed to purify gently, without drying out the lengths.

💧 2. Moisturizing treatment

After washing, it is essential to restore hydration to the hair.

✔️ Apply a conditioner or a deep treatment to detangle and nourish.
Leave on for 10 to 30 minutes if needed.

Tip: The kinkier your hair is, the more it appreciates regular deep treatments.

🌀 3. The leave-in treatment

It is one of the pillars of a good routine.

The leave-in:

  • hydrates the hair fiber

  • prepares for styling

  • helps define curls

At Ikala, our OLY leave-in with tiaré and ylang-ylang (launching very soon) will help you keep your hair soft, supple, and well-hydrated, without weighing it down.

🌿 4. Sealing in moisture

To keep your hair hydrated for a long time, apply:

  • a lightweight oil (jojoba, grape seed…)

  • or a styling cream depending on your type

This is what we call the LCO or LOC method (Leave-in – Cream – Oil / or vice versa).

🌙 5. Nighttime protection

Friction against the pillow can break the hair fiber.
Sleep with a satin bonnet or an appropriate pillowcase.

💡 Bonus: don't strive for perfection

The main thing is to listen to your hair, to test, and adapt according to the season, climate, or your schedule. A consistent routine, even a simple one, makes all the difference.
